CCTI hears about council activities
Student Council of Carbon Career & Technical Institute has been busy.
Ash Little, an instructional aide and student council adviser, was joined by Grace Politi, a junior from the Panther Valley School District in the Digital Marketing & Business Fundamentals Department and a member of student council, at the recent meeting of the joint operating committee.
Little spoke of several events held in the fall, including collecting eight boxes of canned goods and donated to Ebenezer Evangelical Congregational Church, 441 Center Ave., Jim Thorpe.
They organized a Pink Out Color Run for Breast Cancer Awareness on Oct. 23, where students raised $122 and were able to donate $100 to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, and an additional $4 was sent to pay for any processing fees for their donation.
The council hosted events for Halloween and Thanksgiving, and presented specially made shirts to the members of the council.
Upcoming events include a Coin Wars competition for the school in January. The goal for each team is to have the most points, and the winners will receive a prize. Any leftover proceeds will be used to support the Carbon County Friends of Animals Shelter, Jim Thorpe.
Student council will also be helping out the dance committee with setting up and running the All That Glitters Semi Formal at the end of January, and will be selling candy grams for Valentine’s Day.
For CTE Month, student council will hold CTE Jeopardy and Name that Tune for students during lunches. All the advisers will run different events for students to participate for CTE Month in support of the students and their career and technical education.
Student Grace Politi explained why she joined the student council.
“I joined the student council because I wanted to participate more in events we hold in the school community,” she said. “I looked forward to promoting the student body to speak for themselves through the student council.
“My favorite event the student council hosted was the Color Run for Breast Cancer Awareness on Oct. 23. This event allowed the entire student body to come together to support breast cancer awareness and research, and it felt nostalgic because it reminded me of what it felt like to be a kid again. I plan to continue my membership in the student council until graduation.”
