Philosophy of care: Dr. Burlew wants you to understand your condition and your care. He encourages all his patients to talk to him about their concerns and makes it a point to treat each one like family because he respects them. “I strive to call patients directly with test results and make sure they understand what is going on with their medical care,” he says. “I try to help them make cost-effective decisions regarding medications so they can have the best results.”

Conditions treated: Fellowship-trained and board-certified in pulmonary disease medicine, Dr. Burlew treats a broad range of pulmonary issues such as: COPD, asthma, interstitial and occupational lung diseases, sarcoidosis, obstructive sleep apnea, pleural effusions, lung nodules, lung cancer and pneumonia.

Why he chose medicine as a career: Dr. Burlew was in high school when he became interested in a medical career after becoming acquainted with an orthopedic surgeon. He thought the career would be stimulating and fulfilling, and it has been both.

Upon training in New Orleans, Louisiana, at LSU, he came to the Lehigh Valley in 1990 to practice pulmonary medicine.

Dr. Burlew started seeing hospitalized patients at Palmerton Hospital right away and has been seeing patients in the Mahoning Valley at various locations ever since.

He and his wife have five children and live in Bethlehem.

Dr. Burlew enjoys playing tennis and golf and likes to listen to live music.
