A total of 348 cases were started in November in the Carbon County
Prothonotary’s Office, according to a monthly statistical report issued by Kayla M. Semmel, the officeholder.
A breakdown of the cases included: stipulations/waivers of liens, 7; mental health cases, 10; miscellaneous case, 1; tax sales, 5; paternity suit. 1; quiet title action, 1; assessment appeal, 6; civil actions, 53; court appointment, 1; judgments, 191; custody complaints, 13; declaratory judgment, 1; district justice appeal, 1; divorce complaints, 18; complaints in ejectment, 2; license appeal, 1; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 10; replevin complains, 1; and protection from abuse petitions, 25.
Semmel said the office generated fees totaling $38,560.06 from filings in the month, including: prothonotary fees, $32,154.25; custody/divorce fees, $1,477; data processing charges, $4,583.93; PFA surcharge, sheriff, $38.44; PFA surcharge, courts: $38.44; stenographer fees, $268; and remote access fees, $650.
The prothonotary remitted $5,442.91 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, representing fees collected on new cases; deposited $1,239.47 in the automation fund for future automation and improvements to the office; and turned over $34.85 to the state, this being sales tax collected on passport photographs taken and sold.
