State police at Fern Ridge

State police at the Fern Ridge barracks reported the following incidents:

• Darien Vanwert, 28, of Saylorsburg, is facing charges of fleeing and eluding police after an incident at 2:06 a.m. Dec. 1 on routes 209 and 715 in Chestnuthill Township.

Police said they observed him driving a 2015 Acura at a high rate of speed on Route 209 while passing another vehicle. As troopers attempted to pull him over, he fled and a pursuit that lasted about 3 miles followed. Police allege speeds exceeded 100 mph during the chase.

It ended when Vanwert unsuccessfully attempted to turn right onto Route 715, at which time the vehicle went onto the sidewalk and grass and became disabled. Vanwert was taken into custody without incident and refused to be evaluated, they said.

• Troy Alston, 38, of Saylorsburg, is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and a controlled substance after police conducted a traffic stop at 2:29 a.m. Nov. 30.

He was stopped in a 2019 Mazda for summary violations in the 600 block of Evergreen Hollow Road, Chestnuthill Township.

• A 29-year-old man from Tobyhanna is facing charges of possession of a drug paraphernalia after police made a traffic stop at 3:08 a.m. Dec. 7 on Route 611 in Stroud Township.

Police said he was driving a 2018 Infiniti that was stopped for traffic violations, after which police detected an odor of marijuana inside the vehicle. Following a consent search, police found him to be in possession of the contraband.

• A 57-year-old Doylestown man called police at midnight Dec. 3 to Stony Mountain Road, Penn Forest Township.

He reported someone entered his 2006 Ford Expedition and stole a new battery, an Allegiant power battery worth $130. Police said the wires under the hood to the connected battery were cut, but the battery was not taken.

• Police are investigating the theft of an oxycodone pills prescription from a 50-year-old woman from Effort. It was reported at 6:13 p.m. Dec. 17.

She told police the pills were stolen at Georgia Lane and Altemose Drive, Chestnuthill Township, on Dec. 12.

• A 69-year-old Albrightsville woman had $5,000 in cash stolen from her in a theft by deception incident.

She reported at 2 p.m. Dec. 11 that she suffered the financial loss as a result of a phone scam at her residence on Hiawatha Trail, Penn Forest Township.

• Michael Mahoney, 49, of Effort, and Michael Mokshefski, 40, of Nuremberg, were arrested on burglary charges at 6:15 p.m. Dec. 25.

Police said they were called to Briar Lane, Chestnuthill Township, for a report of a Protection From Abuse court order violation and learned that Mahoney and Mokshefski broke into a home through a window.

They said Mahoney also has an active PFA order against him that prohibits him from being at the residence.
