Restoration work began yesterday at the Dimmick Memorial Library on Broadway, Jim Thorpe, which was destroyed by fire on Dec. 13, 1979.
Workers assigned by the Carbon County Manpower Office began removing debris basement of the 90-year-old structure, this being done through a $6,218 project approved by the Carbon County of Commissioners. Herbert Sofranko, Jim Thorpe, is foreman of the crew.
The county’s redevelopment authority is hopeful of providing $25,000 towards the restoration project, having prepared an application for the funds for submission to officials in Harrisburg. Miss Mary Emma DeRemer, head librarian, is coordinating the work of the cleanup crew.
