Mahoning Twp. supervisors reappoints same leadership
Mahoning Township will run under the same tutelage this year.
Supervisor Robert Slaw was reappointed board chairman, while Myron “Zeke” Blahy was reappointed vice chairman at last week’s reorganization meeting.
Other supervisors include Deb McGowan, Ron Reeser and Ron Wenrich.
Other appointments:
• Natalie Haggerty, secretary, treasurer, $27.56 an hour.
• Barbara Kester, clerk, $21.52 an hour.
• Nevin Frey, roadmaster, $29.87 an hour.
• Ronald Reeser, working supervisor and road department worker, $27.72 (Set by township auditors, same rate of pay and benefits that is in the Teamster contract 2024-2027).
• Rickey Frey and AJ Wenrich, part-time winter road department workers. Rate of pay $20 an hour with CDL, all others $18 an hour.
• Jeff Kirsch, part-time summer road department, $15 an hour.
• Approved all supervisors being authorized to work when needed in 2025 if needed and qualified to do the work. The rate of pay is $20 an hour for CDL work and $18 for all other work performed.
• Gabriel Szozda, part-time police officer, $29 an hour.

• Peter Eisenbrown, township engineer.
• Zoning officer, tabled.
• Supervisor Deb McGowan to oversee the police department. McGowan abstained.
• Supervisors Ron Wenrich and Myron “Zeke” Blahy to oversee the road department. Reeser and Blahy abstained.
• Increased tax collector commission from 2.5% in discount and base to 4% and 5% in penalty, as well as to reimburse schooling and insurance tax certifications to $20.

• Scott Bieber, Lehigh Soils and Wetlands, sewage enforcement officer.
• Ian Farrell, alternate sewage enforcement officer.

• Dennis Klotz, municipal authority.

• Zoning hearing board solicitor, tabled.
• Zoning hearing board secretary, $90 per meeting.
• Ron Wenrich, representative to the Lehigh Canal Recreation Commission. Wenrich abstained.
• Myron Blahy, representative, and Natalie Haggerty, alternate, Carbon County Tax Committee. Blahy abstained.
• Deb McGowan, voting delegate to 2025 PSATS State Convention. McGowan abstained.
• Ronald Moyer, joint board of appeals.
• Travelers Casualty and Surety of American Insurance Co., and set treasurer’s bond in the amount of $800,000.
• Jim Thorpe Neighborhood Bank, depositories for township funds, with three of five signatures needed, one being the secretary/treasurer to deposit township funds.
• Mileage reimbursement rate of .70 cents IRS standard rate for 2025.
• Rental of equipment and operator at $125 an hour at a minimum of two hours to other municipalities.
• Board of supervisors meetings at 6 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month, with the exception of Dec. 29.
• Planning commission meetings at 6 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month.
• Zoning hearing board meetings at 6 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month.
• Pauline Homm, tax collector, to collect real property tax, per capita, streetlight and fire hydrant assessments for 2025.
