Lehighton borough council took the following action last week:

• Agreed to create a hiring committee for the L&P assistant superintendent position and the police administrative assistant position.

• Approved the release of funds for First Street cleanup.

• Adopted the emergency management special event plan.

• Extended Advanced Pipe Technologies — I&I rehabilitation contract to Feb. 14.

• On a 6-0 vote, with one abstention, adopted a resolution setting the base salary rates for 2025 and setting the rate of contribution to the police pension fund for calendar year 2025. Councilwoman Autumn Abelovsky abstained as her husband, Troy, is police chief.

• Appointed the borough secretary/treasurer as the delegate for the 2025 Carbon County Tax Collection Committee.

• On a 6-0 vote, with one abstention, approved the Lehighton Downtown Initiative events for 2025. Councilwoman Becky Worthy abstained from the vote.

• Approved the Carbon County Plant Fest event.

• Approved a resolution adjusting the PPA B-factor by $0.003 to adjust the electricity rates for 2025.
