JTASD to repair high school roof
Jim Thorpe Area School District is embarking on a $843,332.87 plan to repair several sections of the high school roof following unanimous board approval Wednesday night.
Funding for the project, to be done by subcontractor C & D Waterproofing Corp., will be partially offset by a $322,000 grant from the Public School Facility Improvement Program. This grant required a 25% match from the district.
“This will just about finish the entire high school roof, bringing all sections under warranty,” Superintendent Robert Presley said regarding the project.
The project, outlined in detail in a proposal submitted by Weatherproofing Technologies Inc., will include multiple phases of roof rehabilitation and replacement.
The base scope of the project involves restoring roof areas 5 and 14, with an estimated cost of $361,983.58. WTI, in a letter to the district, said it will employ advanced cleaning techniques, material upgrades, and structural reinforcements to extend the life of the roof. The contract includes a 25-year Tremco Q/A Plus Warranty, which also provides periodic housekeeping and preventive maintenance inspections at two, five, 10, 15, and 20 years after completion.
The school district also reviewed two alternate proposals for additional roof work. Alternate 1, which covers roof areas 1-3, 8-10, and the canopy, comes at an additional cost of $364,445.00 and includes similar warranty benefits. Alternate 2 proposes the installation of tapered insulation crickets in roof area 3, designed to improve drainage, at a cost of $116,904.29.
Three subcontractors submitted bids for the project: C & D Waterproofing Corporation, Dunmore Roofing, and David M. Maines Associates, Inc. After evaluating all proposals, WTI recommended C & D Waterproofing Corporation as the successful bidder for the project, citing competitive pricing and alignment with project specifications.
