State police at Fern Ridge - crashes

State police at the Fern Ridge barracks reported the following crashes:

• John E. Campbell, 60, of Palmerton, had suspected minor injuries after a one-vehicle crash at 2:42 p.m. Jan. 7 on Drakes Creek Road, Penn Forest Township.

Police said he was transported by personnel from the Lehighton Ambulance Association to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Carbon Campus, Franklin Township.

Police said he was driving a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee southbound when he lost control of it. The Jeep exited the road and struck an embankment and tree. It had to be towed from the scene.

Police said Campbell was cited after the crash.

• No one was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 12:02 p.m. Dec. 20 on State Route 534 in Penn Forest Township.

Police said a 2008 Ford Fusion, whose driver they did not identify, was southbound when it exited the road and hit a utility pole because of road conditions and traveling at an unsafe speed.

The driver was cited after the crash, police said.

• Two vehicles were damaged in a collision in the roundabout on Route 209 in Chestnuthill Township at 5:09 p.m. Dec. 20.

Police did not identify the drivers of the 2022 Jeep Compass and 2016 Toyota Corolla but said both indicated the other one entered their lane, causing the collision.

Police said the Jeep had minor damage while the Corolla had moderate damage.

• Matthew J. Kowalski, 35, of Nanticoke, was uninjured in a one-vehicle crash at 5:53 p.m. Dec. 23 on Interstate 80 in Kidder Township.

Police said he was driving a 2002 Toyota Camry that went out of control and rolled over on an embankment.

Although uninjured, he was transported by personnel from the Lake Harmony Rescue Squad to the Geisinger-Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre, for an evaluation.

The vehicle was towed from the scene, police said.

• A 17-year-old boy from Brodheadsville was cited for following too closely after a three-vehicle crash at 5:53 p.m. Dec. 26 on Route 115 in Chestnuthill Township.

Police said he was driving a 1996 Ford F-350 southbound when it “rear-ended” a 2004 Honda Civic operated by Donna R. Gilmore, 44, of Effort, who had slowed down to make a left turn onto Sugar Hollow Road. Police said the front end of the Civic went into the northbound lane and struck the rear driver side of a 2008 Toyota Highlander driven by Moises A. Larregui, 22, of Effort.

Gilmore had head and neck injuries, police said, and was transported by personnel from the West End Community Ambulance to an area hospital.

Police said the 17-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl, also from Effort, were uninjured, as were Larregui and two passengers with him, Gabrielle G. Larregui, 21, and a 17-year-old girl, both from Effort.

The Ford F-350 had minor damage but the Honda and Highlander had to be towed from the scene.

• Scott M. Trout, 18, of Kunkletown, was cited after a one-vehicle crash at 11:28 p.m. Dec. 3 on Route 209 in Chestnuthill Township. He was uninjured in the incident.

Police said he was driving a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta eastbound in a parking lot when it struck a light pole.

• Alexis L. Brown Chavez, 30, and a 4-year-old boy, both from Albrightsville, were transported by personnel from the Lehighton Ambulance Association to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Carbon Campus, Franklin Township, after a one-vehicle crash at 4:15 a.m. Dec. 28 on Old Stage Road, Penn Forest Township.

Police said Brown Chavez was driving a 2012 Ford Escape northbound when it exited the road due to icy and wet conditions and hit a large tree.

• John T. Warren, 36, of Albrightsville, and Cordia A. Hinton, 30, of Philadelphia, were was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 6:55 a.m. Dec. 29 on East Old Stage Road, Penn Forest Township.

Police said they were as transported by personnel from the Lehighton Ambulance Association to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Carbon Campus, Franklin Township. They said the severity of his injuries is unknown.

Police said Warren was driving a 2018 Nissan Maxima, with Hinton as a passenger, that left the road and hit a mailbox and a tree. The vehicle had to be towed from the scene.

• Evan H. Burney, 18, Effort, was uninjured in a one-vehicle crash at 10:14 p.m. Dec. 15 on Mohawk Avenue, Chestnuthill Township.

Police said he was driving a 2003 Subaru Outback that went out of control on the snow-covered roadway and then hit a tree. It sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene.
