Police: Man struck woman, pushed her from car
A Weatherly man who violently beat a woman then pushed her from a vehicle into the woods before driving away is locked up in Carbon County Prison.
State police charged David Kiddish Jr., 31, of Weatherly, with aggravated assault, simple assault, unauthorized use of a vehicle, harassment and criminal mischief following a 11:49 p.m. Jan. 11 incident.
Kiddish was arraigned before Weatherly Magisterial District Judge Joseph Homanko and was unable to post $250,000 cash bail.
Police from the Hazleton barracks said they were called to a home on Pump House Road, Lehigh Township, for a domestic incident. When they arrived, they saw the woman had swelling and bruising on her face, and blood coming from her ear and nose.
The woman told police that Kiddish drove her vehicle to a local establishment where he was drinking. She said she did not want Kiddish to drive drunk so she retrieved her vehicle.
Around 11 p.m., Kiddish called her for a ride. Police said when she arrived, Kiddish opened the vehicle’s door, punched her in the head and face, and kicked her in the stomach. He then moved her to the passenger seat and began driving the vehicle without her permission. Police said that as he drove, he told the woman, “They are going to find you in the river tonight.”
Police said he took the vehicle off-road in the area of Laurytown Road in Lehigh Township, pushed the woman out into a wooded area, then drove away.
The woman ran to a home on Pump House Road in hopes of finding help. Homeowners allowed her inside and called police.
Police said the woman complained of face, head, jaw, nose and stomach pains and was unable to provide any additional information.
Police spoke to the witness, who said the woman knocked on her door and asked for help. The witness allowed her inside, gave her a blanket, asked what happened and called 911.
A crew from Valley Regional EMS transported the woman to Lehigh Valley Hospital — Hazleton for evaluation.
Police contacted a family member of Kiddish, who said he was at her home. Police went to the residence and saw the woman’s vehicle in the driveway. Kiddish was inside a shed and was taken into custody. He told police he and the woman were arguing about the vehicle and that things “got out of hand.”
At 3:47 a.m., police spoke to medical staff who said that the woman’s eyes were swollen shut, she was bleeding from her ear and had an internal right side brain bleed. The woman was flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital — Cedar Crest.
Police also noted that the woman’s vehicle was damaged.
A preliminary hearing for Kiddish is scheduled for Jan. 22 before Homank, according to court documents.
