State police arrested a Wyalusing man on a number of charges following a two-vehicle crash and subsequent chase Wednesday on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, according to state police at the Lehighton barracks.
Police said Albert Mario Abuchaibe, 38, was committed to the Carbon County Correctional Facility, Nesquehoning, on $500,000 straight bail following his arraignment before Judge Eric M. Schrantz of Magisterial District 56-3-01.
He is charged with robbery, assault, fleeing and eluding a police officer, driving under the influence and other charges.
Police said troopers from Troop T (Turnpike) were dispatched to the crash at mile marker 86.3 southbound in Penn Forest Township. Abuchaibe ran from the scene and pulled a woman from her vehicle at a gas pump at the Hickory Run Service Plaza.
Troopers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the operator refused to stop. An induced stop was performed on the fleeing vehicle by troopers, rendering the vehicle disabled.
Abuchaibe was taken into custody without further incident.
