Banks man sexually assaulted minor, police say
A Banks Township man was sent to the Carbon County Prison on charges he sexually assaulted a minor over a span of more than four years.
State police charged Brandon Butler, 39, of Tresckow, with a single count of criminal attempt-sexual assault and five counts each of involuntary servitude, corruption of minors and endangering the welfare of a child.
The minor said the abuse began in December 2020 and continued until February 2024.
Butler was arraigned Friday before Weatherly Magisterial District Judge Joseph Homanko, who set bail at $250,000 cash.
State police said they were sent to talk to a 17-year-old girl in March 2024. She told them that Butler had been sexually assaulting her since she was 13 years old.
She told police that the first time it happened, Butler put his hands underneath her pants and touched her private area. The girl said Butler told that her he loved her and that she couldn’t tell anyone what they did together because he would be in trouble. He also threatened to kill himself, police said.
The teen said Butler would watch her as she showered. She also told police that Butler gave her electronic devices and in return that he expected her to lie next to him. She said she did not want to do but felt obligated because of the threats Butler made.
The girl told police that Butler asked her to take off her pants, and if she did not, he would become angry. She told police that after her pants were off, Butler attempted to have intercourse with her.
Police were able to view text conversations between Butler and the girl, many of which were sexual in nature, police said.
According to police, the girl has since relocated to another state “due to the years of sexual and mental abuse she suffered through from Butler.”
On April 1, police interviewed Butler, who claimed that he did not have a physical relationship with the girl. He was scheduled to return to the state police barracks on May 21, but he failed to show up, police said.
