Yoga session benefits Carbon Community Foundation
In a quiet ambiance with faint music in the background, about a dozen men and women joined Melissa Zegley, owner of Zen With Zegley, for a one-hour yoga session to help raise funds for the Carbon County Community Foundation.
The session was held at the Orioles Community Center in Lehighton, on Saturday.
All donations for the class were given to the Foundation for its continued charitable works.
“I’ve been a 2020 circle member for a few years now with the Carbon County Community Foundation,” Zegley said. “So, Sharon (Alexander) and I got together and discussed it. We thought it would be a fun way to introduce yoga to some of the community members and also raise some funds for that Carbon County Fund. It’s a win-win for everybody.”
Zegley led the participants in seated and standing poses and exercises. For anyone who set a New Year’s resolution to get more exercise and relieve tension, yoga fills both needs.
Sharon Alexander, president and CEO of the foundation, explained where the money goes.
“We give out between $20,000 and $25,000 every year to organizations in Carbon County for a variety of needs. Last year, we gave out grants that purchased equipment for the Lehighton Ambulance. We support some cancer support programming in the county, some grants for the food shelters and homeless shelters in the area. So any kind of need they might have; they apply and then we give out this money each spring.”
Any organization that would like to apply for a grant from the Foundation can find information on the website at cccfoundpa.org.
