ON THIS DATE JANUARY 13, 1971

Miss Nancy Zona of Lansford became the first and only girl to enter the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps at Penn State University.

She is a graduate of Panther Valley High School, where she was a library assistant for four years, a cheerleader and a member of the Pep Club.

A daughter of Christine Zona of Lansford and the late Paul Zona, Nancy has active in the youth organization at St. John the Evangelist Slovak Lutheran Church, Lansford. She hopes to eventually join the Army to become a base elementary teacher.

Nancy was placed in the JROTC’s Public Information Office where she helps to edit a newsletter and makes frequent public appearances.
