Monroe DA adds consumer protection division

The Monroe County District Attorney’s Office has announced the launch of its Consumer Protection Division, a significant step toward safeguarding consumer rights and promoting fair business practices throughout the county.

“The district attorney’s office is committed to protecting our community from those who would use fraud, deceit, or other unlawful means to take advantage of people,” said District Attorney Mike Mancuso. “I am very pleased to appoint an experienced and dedicated consumer protection attorney as a special assistant district attorney to spearhead the Consumer Protection Civil Division of the office.”

He appointed Patrick J. Best, who has more than 15 years of experience in consumer protection.

“I am excited to work with Patrick for the benefit of everyday folks who often lack the resources to seek redress when victimized by deceptive practices,” Mancuso said.

Best said, “The consumer protection law allows us to seek justice for folks who have been taken advantage of by bad actors. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the DA’s office to hold bad actors accountable and improve our county.”

He is member of the National Association of Consumer Advocates, which represents over 1,500 attorneys focused on consumer protection. Best has also announced his candidacy for judge of the court of common pleas in Monroe County.
