Carbon County is continuing to utilize the Old Mauch Chunk Train Station as a way to educate visitors about the area and the happenings going on around the region.
On Monday, the commissioners approved a lease agreement with Pocono Mountain Visitors Bureau for office space in the train station that is used as the visitor information center. The lease is in effect through Dec. 31, 2027 with the annual rent for the space being $35,829 in 2025, $36,904 in 2026 and $38,011 in 2027. In addition, PMVB will pay real estate taxes on the building.
Carbon County and PMVB have utilized the main area of the train station for a visitors center for over 25 years.
In 2014, the visitors center received a face-lift, updating the center to what visitors see today.
In other matters, the new meeting schedule for the county commissioners now goes into effect.
The meetings are held the first and third Thursdays of the month, beginning in February.
The next meeting of the board of commissioners is 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 23.
