West Penn Twp. board reaffirms Lorah as police chief

The West Penn Township Board of Supervisors kept most appointments the same for 2025 during its Monday reorganization meeting.

The biggest change was reaffirming a new leader for the township police department.

Supervisors voted unanimously to have Cpl. Jason Lorah fill the role of police chief. Following the vote, many in the audience applauded.

The position had been vacant since former police chief James Bonner’s suspension in September and subsequent termination in October.

Lorah worked for the department for years and retired with the rank of sergeant. He returned and was promoted to corporal in April.

The board also moved to have police Sgt. John Kaczmarczyk work as a full-time employee. As a part-timer, he had served as the department’s sergeant-in-charge since Bonner’s suspension.

Tony Prudenti will continue as supervisors chairman. Glenn Hummel will remain in the role of vice chairman and Jim Akins will continue as supervisor.

Karen Wittig will return as treasurer, while Katie Orlick will remain township secretary, planning commission secretary, property maintenance appeals secretary and Right-to-Know officer.

Other appointments include:

• Herb Woodring — assistant to the board.

• Jeremy Frable — roadmaster and flood plain coordinator.

• Connor Evans — emergency management coordinator.

• Paul Datte — solicitor.

• Larry Wittig — Vacancy Board.

• ARRO Consulting — engineer, zoning officer and code enforcement officer.

• Bill Brior — sewage enforcement officer.

• Jeff Bradford — fire chief; and Brandon Bradford and Rick Mertz — acting fire chiefs.

Supervisors will meet on the first Monday of each month at 6 p.m., and on the third Monday of each month at 10 a.m.
