Nicholas Kordilla, son of Nicholas Kordilla of Nesquehoning, this morning received a letter of commendation from Col. Frank G. McCartney of Lansford, state police commissioner, for “duties of an extraordinary nature” during a presentation at the Wyoming Barracks of the state police.
Trooper Kordilla received the honor as a result of his actions at a serious crash on Nov. 25, 1960, in Factoryville.
Officials said he appeared on scene in minutes, radioed for an ambulance and doctor and then controlled the bleeding for 35 minutes of a Philadelphia man who went through the windshield of the vehicle involved in the crash.
Dr. John Reinheimer of Tunkhannock, who arrived at the scene, said Trooper Kordilla helped to save the life of the victim.
