One only needs to read the news to see the horrific crimes multiplying every day in our society. It is clear that unless we address the profound spiritual crisis within the human soul, America will continue to spiral downward.
In his book, “Pagan America: The Decline of Christianity and the Dark Age to Come,” John Davidson provides examples of how society is regressing to the atrocities of pagan peoples. He notes that the actions of a growing amount of individuals are becoming increasingly reminiscent of the barbarians of old.
The author claims if left unimpeded the new post-Christian neo-pagan culture will usher in state-sponsored religious persecution on a scale not seen since the Diocletian persecution of the early fourth century.
America’s neo-paganism is obvious with the acceptance of abortion, euthanasia, transgenderism, and Satanism. Abortion and euthanasia are manifestations of human sacrifice. Postmodern witchcraft and Satanism are the equivalent of pagan religious cults.
Many Americans, including some conservatives, believe that morality is not essential. They think society can operate effectively within a constitutional framework where everyone respects each other’s rights and freedoms. However, history proves that when the Christian order collapses, it leads to barbaric acts and persecution.
This book serves as an eye-opener. As Christians, we cannot afford to be complacent and think we can isolate ourselves and wait out the storm; we must be actively engaged. St. Boniface, in his time, fought against paganism by cutting down the pagan tree of worship and using its wood to build a church that would help convert the pagans to Christianity.
This is the challenge we face in making America great again. If we do not rise to meet it, what awaits America is not greatness but rather a path toward chaos and a return to paganism.
