Lehighton man charged in domestic assault

A Lehighton man has been charged with assaulting a woman during a domestic dispute.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by patrolman Jason Pryce of the Lehighton Borough Police Department in the case against Steven Chase:

Pryce received a dispatch from the 400 block of North First Street regarding a domestic incident at 11:35 p.m. Dec. 24.

A woman was sitting in her vehicle outside the residence when he arrived.

Pryce spoke to the woman, who said the defendant, Chase, 30, was inside and did not have any weapons in the house, except possibly a kitchen knife.

She was attempting to show Pryce a video on her cellphone when Chase called her.

Pryce told the woman to tell Chase to step out of the residence. Chase replied that if there was anyone outside his house, they would regret it.

Chase did come out the residence and was taken into custody.

In the woman’s video regarding the incident, Chase can be heard striking the woman numerous times with her yelling at him to get off her.

Numerous times throughout the video, Chase can be heard saying to the woman that he was “going to beat” her.

The woman said Chase struck her in the face three times and hit her in the face with a broom.

The woman also said that at one point, Chase had her in a choke hold.

“I couldn’t breathe, and genuinely thought he was going to kill me,” she said.

Police observed red marks on her neck and face consistent with her description of the violence.

Chase faces charges of terroristic threats, simple assault, strangulation and harassment.

He remains free in lieu of $20,000 unsecured bail and is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Feb. 26 before District Judge Eric M. Schrantz.
