Walnutport man found in quarry identified

The Lehigh County Coroner’s Office & Forensics Center has identified the man found in the underground quarry in Slatington.

Jesse J. Rutt, 41, was pronounced dead at 11:34 p.m. Monday at the scene in the water of an underground quarry in the 300 block of East Church Street.

His body was in a cave along the Slate Heritage Trail.

The Lehigh County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

The coroner’s office said the manner and cause of death is pending toxicology results.

The investigation is being conducted by the Pennsylvania State Police Bethlehem barracks, in conjunction with the coroner’s office.

Also assisting with this investigation are the Troop M Forensic Services Unit, Lehigh County Coroner’s Office, Lehigh County Emergency Management, Slatington Borough Police Department, Walnutport Police Department, Slatington Borough Fire Department, and the Diamond Fire Company in Walnutport.
