Lansford files to remove Doyle

Lansford Borough Council moved forward last week with a request to remove one of its own from council.

Council approved requesting the Carbon County District Attorney Michael Greek to file a quo warranto action to have Jay Doyle, council vice president, removed from his seat.

Council also approved stopping Doyle’s pay as a member of council.

In October, Doyle was sentenced to 42 to 84 months in state prison for a 2023 assault that hospitalized a man for five weeks. He is currently lodged in the State Correctional Institute-Smithfield in Huntington County.

Council had taken no action on a request to remove Doyle, pending any possible appeals following his sentence.

District Attorney Greek said in mid-December that no appeal had been filed, only a motion to reconsider the sentence.

Greek had noted that his office would not initiate the quo warranto, or legal action challenging person’s right to hold public office, without a request from council, and none had been submitted.
