Walnutport man found dead in Slatington quarry

A Walnutport man was found dead in the water of an underground quarry in Slatington late Monday night.

The Lehigh County Coroner’s Office & Forensics Center said the man, 41, was pronounced dead at 11:34 p.m. at the scene in the water of an underground quarry in the 300 block of East Church Street.

State police were provided information that a deceased man may be located in the area of Slate Heritage Trail in Slatington.

During the investigation, troopers and other first responders discovered a deceased man in a cave along the Slate Heritage Trail.

The Lehigh County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

The autopsy is scheduled for Thursday at the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office & Forensics Center to determine the cause of death.

While the man has been presumptively identified, his name won’t be released until a positive identification is confirmed.

The investigation is being conducted by the Pennsylvania State Police — Bethlehem barracks, in conjunction with the coroner’s office.

Also assisting with this investigation are the Troop M Forensic Services Unit, Lehigh County Coroner’s Office, Lehigh County Emergency Management, Slatington Borough Police Department, Walnutport Police Department, Slatington Borough Fire Department, and the Diamond Fire Company in Walnutport.
