State police announce crashes, holiday enforcement results
The Pennsylvania State Police have released crash and enforcement numbers for the 2024 Christmas travel period.
From Dec. 24 to 26, state police investigated 495 crashes, resulting in one death and 81 injuries. Impaired driving was a factor in 27 of the crashes.
During those three days, troopers arrested 138 people for driving under the influence and issued the following citations: 720 for speeding; 72 for failing to wear a seat belt; and 19 for not securing children in safety seats.
Police released the following statewide data:
Crash data — total crashes, 495; one fatal crash with one person killed and one person injured, people injured, 81; DUI crashes, 27.
Enforcement data — DUI arrests, 138; speeding citations, 720; child seat citations, 19; seat belt citations, 72; other citations, 3,295.
With New Year’s Eve celebrations coming up, state police announced the troopers will once again be on the lookout for impaired, aggressive and distracted drivers. Police remind people to plan to have a safe ride home, especially if holiday plans involve alcohol.
