The Schuylkill County Commissioners recently approved five demolition projects, including one at 35-37-39 Railroad St. in Tamaqua.

The board is also advertising for Request for Qualifications from firms to prepare asbestos abatement assessments related to the demolition projects, and advertise for RFQs from community development consulting firms and engineering for the county federal Community Development Block Grant programs for fiscal years 2025, 2026 and 2027.

The commissioners also took the these actions:

• Reappointed the following members to the Schuylkill County Planning Commission for new, four-year terms beginning Jan. 1: David Briggs, Gary Bender and Travis Smeltz.

• Voted to reappoint Anthony Prudenti to a new, four-year term on the Schuylkill County Zoning Hearing Board effective Jan. 1.

• Voted to approve renewing the contract with Lehigh Engineering to provide zoning officer services to the county for 2025.

• Granted the request of Schuylkill Community Action, the administrative agency for the Affordable Housing Trust Board, for two-year extensions for the Schuylkill County Housing Counseling Program and the Weatherization Deferral Home Rehab Program through June 30, 2026.
