December 31, 2013 — Jim Thorpe’s Ryan Saunders is named the Offensive Player of the Year, while Marian’s Lukas Damian is selected the Defensive Player of the Year as the Times News releases its annual All-Star Football Team. Saunders runs for 1,570 yards and 17 touchdowns and throws for 1,005 yards and 10 scores. Damian finishes the season with over 160 tackles, including four games where he had 20 or more stops. Others named include Pleasant Valley’s Brandon Leap (quarterback), Marquis Brown (defensive lineman) and Kevin Cruz (receiver); Northwestern’s Cam Richardson (defensive back) and Mackenzie Stork (offensive lineman); Tamaqua’s Tyler Hope (running back); and Palmerton’s Tre Nelson (linebacker).
