Chicago man charged after 2-county chase, home invasion
A Chicago man who stole a car, fired shots and led police on a two-county chase that began outside of Hazleton was taken into custody Monday morning after he crashed in Schuylkill County, according to state police.
Isaac Cintron, 32, was committed to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility on charges that include attempted criminal homicide, evading arrest and theft of a motor vehicle, state police said.
Police said the incident began in Butler Township, Luzerne County, when Butler police officers attempted to stop Cintron, who was driving a stolen vehicle.
Cintron fled the area, got out of the vehicle, fired shots and ran away. He then committed a home invasion at a nearby residence and stole a vehicle, police said.
Cintron was located on Interstate 80, where state police attempted to initiate a traffic stop. He refused to stop and a pursuit ensued, police said.
The chase traveled into Schuylkill County, where Cintron crashed after crossing over spike strips. Police said he was taken into custody without incident.
Witnesses said Cintron crashed his vehicle on Route 54 near the intersection of Church Road in Rush Township.
The stretch of road was closed to traffic at Marian Avenue.
Police said that no shots were fired by any trooper or police officer. According to police, it was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.
Cintron was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Carol Davenport on the following charges: one count of attempted criminal homicide; nine counts of simple assault; seven counts of reckless endangerment; eight counts of aggravated assault; two counts of propulsion of missiles into an occupied vehicle or onto a roadway; four counts of theft by unlawful taking; and one count each of receiving stolen property, criminal trespass, robbery of motor vehicle, fleeing or attempting to elude, persons not to possess firearms and evading arrest or detention.
