PHS falls to Easton
The Parkland High School boys wrestling team had a busy week before Christmas as it wrestled against one of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference favorite, Easton, last Wednesday, and then competed in the two-day King of the Mountain Tournament this past Friday and Saturday at Central Mountain High School.
The Trojans (2-2 overall, 2-1 EPC) lost to Easton 38-19 and then placed 14th overall at the King of the Mountain out of 32 teams.
Against the Red Rovers, Parkland won four of the nine bouts, including two technical falls, one pin and one decision. Easton got out to a quick, 10-0 lead after a pin in the opening bout at 160 pounds and then a major decision at 172. Christopher Toth got his team on the scoreboard with a 9-4 decision at 189 pounds. Then, following back-to-back decisions for the Red Rovers, Luis Moya and Braden Todora both won by tech. falls at 107 and 114 pounds, respectively, to cut the Trojans deficit to just 16-13. But Easton won six of the last seven bouts, outside of a pin at 145 pounds by Leo Kern.
At the King of the Mountain, the Trojans finished with 90.5 team points. The best individual result came from Matthew Velez at 121 pounds as he finished fourth overall. Moya placed sixth at 107 pounds and Toth took eighth at 189 pounds.
Parkland is back out on the mats this weekend at the two-day Bethlehem Holiday Classic at Liberty on Saturday and Sunday and then will host its annual Parkland Winter Duals on Saturday, Jan. 4.
