Icing on the Cake: Albrightsville woman quits job to do what she loves

If you’re looking for homemade cakes made with the best ingredient, love, try Sharleen’s Kreations.

Sharleen Rinamon of Albrightsville began making cakes in 2013 when she lost her babysitter for her 2-year-old son. She quit her job at a printing company and decided to put her energy into the kitchen because she “always loved cooking and baking.”

By word-of-mouth, her Sharleen’s Kreations began.

She takes orders for the holidays and baked 25 cakes for Christmas orders. Taking about 12 hours from prep to the final product, her two children lend a hand. Six-year-old Kayleen, who’s favorite is vanilla with no icing, and 12-year-old Jayden, who loves chocolate cake with Nutella.

Flavors available include coconut, chocolate, vanilla bean, carrot cake and tres leches, a sponge cake soaked in three different milks.

Just what are the three different milks?

“I can’t give away my secrets,” Rinamon said.

But one thing she did share is that what makes her cakes different and keeps them moist is a special syrup she pours into each of cake after they are baked.

Taking about 20 minutes to make, homemade frosting seals the deal.

Special flavors can be ordered for the holidays, including pumpkin and the best-selling almond cake with butter cream frosting, a traditional Puerto Rican cake.

Cakes are sold at the West End Fair and other local fairs and festivals. People can choose a personal-size cake, spoon included, or a larger 7-inch cake. Bigger cakes can be requested for birthdays and other special occasions.

Information on Sharleens Kreations is available on her Facebook page.
