Nolehi’s Barthold earns all-state honors

Katelynn Barthold has had plenty of highlights in her career.

Her senior season was no different.

Barthold was sensational for a Northern Lehigh girls soccer team that qualified for the District 11 Class 2A and Colonial League tournaments.

She had 41 goals and seven assists for the Bulldogs this past season, and recorded 121 goals and 36 assists in her career. Barthold’s play was recently recognized with a selection to the Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association (PSCA) All-State Team at the forward position.

It’s an accolade that’s in-line with the type of play Northern Lehigh head coach Jason Reinhard has seen from Barthold throughout her storied career.

“She is one of the hardest working, most dedicated players our program has ever seen,” said Reinhard. “She and our other seniors did an amazing job leading a young team to 13 wins this year.”

In a 5-1 win over Tamaqua on Sept. 14, Barthold recorded a hat trick and tallied her 100th career goal – the first player in Northern Lehigh history to do so. Barthold also scored six goals in a spectacular effort to during a 6-1 win over Pen Argyl on Sept. 3.

She also had a goal in the Bulldogs’ 2-0 win over Bangor in the Colonial League quarterfinals.

As a junior, Barthold scored 39 goals.

Barthold’s tenacity – as much as her talent – have been a driving force behind her success on the field. And her leadership has set a standard for future Bulldogs to follow.

“She, most games, was playing as a solo striker against a man mark and the other team’s defense but still managed to be the leading scorer in the area and No. 5 in the state when the regular season ended,” Reinhard said of Barthold, who is also a tremendous basketball player and track and field athlete. “She is what every coach dreams of, an extremely talented, highly motivated, coachable, tremendous young lady.”

In addition to Barthold, Easton’s Sarah Pulcini (forward), Saucon Valley’s Ava Riehl (midfield), Allentown Central Catholic’s Delia McMullen (midfield) and Emma Wells (defense), and North Schuylkill’s Lilah Helwig (midfield) were other District 11 players named to the PSCA All-State Team.
