Bombers, Tigers pick up victories

Palmerton picked up a win in girls basketball action Friday, while the Northwestern wrestling team claimed a non-league victory.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Palmerton-Saucon Vy.

A balanced attack helped unbeaten Palmerton roll to a 49-17 Colonial League win over Saucon Valley.

Cate Morgan paced the Bombers with 11 points – including three treys – while Mikayla Pengelly, Hailey Barry and Courtney Connell all finished with nine points.

Maggie Gorman led the Panthers with 10 points.

Strong play in the first and third quarters helped Saucon Valley claim a 49-28 Colonial League win over Palmerton.

Jack Robertson had 12 points for the Panthers, who led 16-7 after the first quarter and outscored the visitors 13-4 in the third period. Eli Miller added 11 points, while Adam Clark scored 10.

Corey Serfass scored 10 points for the Bombers. Logan Anthony added eight points.

WRESTLING

Freedom-Northwestern

Northwestern handed Freedom its first loss by earning a 35-31 non-league victory.

The Tigers received three pins in the match, as Weston Killar (114 pounds), Trent Croll (139) and Vinnie Fugazzotto (172) all registered first-period falls.

The winners also picked up bonus points from Braydon Uricchio (127) and Luke Fuggazzotto (189), who both contributed major decisions.

The Blue Raiders’ Makovec netted a game-high 15 points, while Farrone ended with six to lead the Spartans.

Tamaqua-Marian

Tamaqua defeated Marian 41-21.

The Blue Raiders’ Smith poured in a game-high 20 points, while Makovec added eight and Conner chipped in with seven points.

Tamaqua-Panther Valley

Tamaqua registered a 44-31 win over Panther Valley.

Conner finished with 14 points to pace the Blue Raiders, while Makovec followed with 13 points. Kovalchick also reached double figures with 10 points.

Lynn topped the Panthers with 10 points.

Tamaqua-St. Clair

Tamaqua psoted a 31-22 victory over St. Clair.

The Blue Raiders’ Makovec netted a game-high 13 points, while Kovalchick chipped in with 10.

Weatherly-North Schuylkill

North Schuylkill cruised to a 44-17 win over Weatherly.

Jayce Sapp had 20 points to lead the Spartans, while the Wreckers received a team-high nine points from Carter Minnick.

8th Grade

Weatherly-North Schuylkill

Weatherly dropped a 50-33 decision to North Schuylkill.

Eli Briwn paced the Wreckers with 10 points, while Jaxon McKeegan finished with eight.

The Spartans received 10 points from both Jackson Sweeney and Nico Cupone.

North Schuylkill coasted to a 53-25 win over Weatherly.

The Spartans’ Payton Gawrylick led all scorers with 14 points.

Halena Williams had eight points to pace the Wreckers, while Mikayla Pugh followed with seven.
