Local Roundup: Results from Dec. 17

Savannah Wilson set a new pool record as the Tamaqua girls swim team posted a win on Tuesday.

Palmerton’s boys and girls teams also picked up victories, while Northwestern received a pair of wins from its girls basketball and wrestling squads.

The Blue Raider girls also won in basketball action.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Palmerton-Jim Thorpe

Palmerton used a 15-4 fourth quarter to pull away from Jim Thorpe and gain a 49-33 Colonial League win.

Corey Serfass and Cameron Pengelly each had 11 points for the Blue Bombers, with Serfass hitting three three-pointers.

Pierce Gothard of the Olympians led all scorers with 15 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Jim Thorpe-Palmerton

A 21-point opening frame got Palmerton off to a fast start, and the Blue Bombers rolled to a 61-16 Colonial League victory over visiting Jim Thorpe.

The Bombers’ Mikayla Pengelly drained eight of her game-high 17 points in the first quarter, while Cate Morgan added six of her 14 points in the same stanza.

Ella Baumgardt and Hailey Barry both netted 10 points for the winners.

Brooklyn Yuhas finished with four points to lead the Olympians.

Northwestern exploded for 31 points in the opening quarter and cruised to a 50-39 non-conference win over Freedom.

Natalie Conner poured in 15 of her game-high 20 points in the first for the Tigers, who led by 24 after heading into the second period.

Teammate Cara Thomas added nine of her 16 points during the first eight minutes.

The Patriots’ Kate Assad netted a team-high 15 points.

Lauren Ligenza had a double-double with 23 points and 16 rebounds to help Tamaqua cruise to a 52-25 Schuylkill League win over Pine Grove.

Kolbe Robb contributed eight points and seven steals for the Blue Raiders.

Addison Zimmerman led the Cardinals with eight points, including the only two three-pointers in the game.

Gianna Donovan and Morgan Labosky each tallied 14 points to help propel Shenandoah Valley to a 51-11 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.

Donovan scored all of her points in the first half, including four three-pointers.

Kelly Reiner led the Wreckers with eight points, which included a 6-of-7 effort at the free-throw line.

Blue Mountain-Panther Vy.

Makayla Keck hit three three-pointers during a big third quarter to help Blue Mountain pull away from Panther Valley for a 64-36 Schuylkill League victory.

The Eagles extended a nine-point halftime lead by outscoring the Panthers 24-8 in the third.

Keck finished with a team-high 18 points, while Mila Fleagle added 14.

PV was led by Morgan Orsulak’s 19 points and seven rebounds.

SWIMMING

North Schuylkill-Tamaqua

Tamaqua and North Schuylkill both earned a split in their Schuylkill League matchup.

Savannah Wilson set a new pool record, as the Raider girls swam to a 115-64 victory. The Spartan boys, meanwhile, posted a 94-61 win.

Wilson won the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.18, breaking the record of 1:09.46 previously held by Panther Valley’s Samantha Vavra from 2006. Wilson was the only multiple winner, as she also took the 200 IM.

Other Raider firsts in the girls meet came from Janna Brown (50 free), Audrey Nattress (100 butterfly), Lyla Clemson (500 free) and Kate Behun (100 backstroke).

In the boys competition, Vincenzo Valentine (diving) and Nicholas Barron (100 breaststroke) both registered wins.
