Bible Study Group gives meals to homeless

The Weissport Ladies Bible Study Group made the Christmas season a bit merrier for homeless individuals.

On Tuesday, volunteers with the group donated about 10 huge containers of food, as well as hams, to the Peaceful Knights homeless shelter in Lehighton.

The food included fruits, vegetables, canned goods and a potpourri of other items for providing individuals at the two Peaceful Knights facilities with meals.

Kitchen facilities are-on site at the Peaceful Knights.

Anita Wisler, overseer of the Bible Study Group, said that trays of cookies were also given by the group to shut-ins.

“We should not forget those less fortunate than ourselves,” Wisler said. “We want to help them be able to enjoy the real meaning of Christmas.”

She said this is the fourth year they have undertaken such a project.

Wisler said the Men’s Bible Study Group also contributed to the efforts. Overseer of the Men’s Bible Study Group is Pastor Robert Hines.

She said the Weissport Ladies Bible Study Group meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at 9 a.m. at St. Peter’s Resource Center, 177 Main Road, Weissport.

The home base for the group had been the Gathering Place at 305 White St., Weissport, but that site is presently undergoing renovation. The Weissport Ladies Bible Study Group anticipates returning to the Gathering Place sometime in 2025, possibly in the spring.

The Men’s Bible Study Group meets at 7 p.m. every Tuesday at Lehighton Bible Church and at 7 p.m. every Thursday at Ben Salem UCC Church.
