Tresckow to upgrade Babe Ruth complex

More improvements will be made to the Babe Ruth ball field in Tresckow in the new year.

Fred Mayshock, a member of the board of directors of Banks Township Babe Ruth, asked the Banks Township Supervisors last week for guidance on how to run a new electrical line that will service a new concession stand and new restrooms that are planned for 2025.”

“Should we go overhead or underground?” Mayshock asked.

“I think you would be better off going overhead,” said Supervisor Rick Porpiglia,

Mayshock said if the line went overhead, a tree needs to be trimmed,

“We want to put a septic tank in, for new restrooms we will build before the season about halfway between the Babe Ruth field and the Little League field,” Mayshock said. “And we want to get the concession stand going,”

For permission to build the septic tank, Porpiglia said the group will have to go to the KBM Sewer Authority.

Since the group took the field over three years ago, the walls of new dugouts were built by students from the Keystone Job Corps Center in Drums. The first-base, or home, dugout was built oversized to accommodate a concession stand.

The roofs of the dugouts were built by Jim Gallagher, a local contractor, Mayshock said.

The Job Corps students also built an entrance sign to the complex.

Mayshock also said Little Leaf Lettuce donated a 44-foot storage container. Hazle Township donated road millings to help build a road into the complex.

“Everybody has pitched in to help,” said Matt Lazar, another member of the board.

“We have to redo the infield,” Mayshock said. “We need the drainage to get better so we don’t have as many rain outs.

The group has fielded two three teams in the Valley Junior Babe Ruth League for three baseball seasons, including fall ball teams. These teams are the only teams outside of the valley teams.

Garbage change

The supervisors said garbage collection outside Tresckow will be changed for the weeks around Christmas.

Garbage will be collected in those areas on Thursday, Dec. 26 instead of Saturday, Dec. 28, and Thursday, Jan. 2 instead of Saturday, Jan. 4.

Collection in Tresckow will remain on Saturdays as usual.
