Tamaqua firefighters responded to a house fire in the 300 block of Clark Street, which displaced 5 people, late Monday afternoon.
Fire crews responded to the double home at 309-311 Clark St. just after 5 p.m. and firefighters had the blaze under control in about an hour, Fire Chief Jim Connely said. The fire started in the 311 side of the home, which is a total loss, the chief said.
The cause of the fire is unattended cooking, Connely said, and is being ruled as accidental. The chief still had not evaluated the extend of the damage on the 309 side of the home, he said Tuesday morning.
One person lived in the 311 side of the home, while four people resided in the 309 side of the home, Connely said.
All four fire companies from Tamaqua responded, as well as the firefighters from Coaldale and the Rapid Intervention Team from the Panther Valley. Tamaqua police, ambulance and rescue were also on the scene, he said. Firefighters remained on the scene until about 8:30 p.m.
A GoFundMe account, Tamaqua House Fire, has been set up to raise money for one of the fire victims by Skye Schaefer, whose father, Edward Schaefer, was displaced. She hopes the fundraising effort can benefit both families that were impacted.
“Any help goes a long way in just knowing they aren’t alone and have support within the community,” Skye Schaefer said, regarding the fundraising effort, adding that she appreciates the help, support and kindness shown already.
