Lehigh commissioner will not seek 2nd term

Lehigh County Commissioner Jeffrey Dutt announced Saturday that he would not be running for another term in the 2025 election.

“I have had the honor and privilege of representing District 5, which includes parts of Allentown, Salisbury Township, Coopersburg, Upper Saucon Township, and the Borough of Emmaus, since being appointed to the Lehigh County Board of Commissioners in December 2020,” he said in a statement. “I want to thank the citizens of Lehigh County for allowing me to represent them. I am appreciative of all the support I have received.”

Dutt will be serving out the rest of his term through December 2025.

While on the board of commissioners, Dutt championed several resolutions and bills that benefitted the taxpayers of Lehigh County.

He sponsored four “no raise” tax budgets and has been the Finance Committee chair for the past three years. He has worked with the administration to pass legislation to raise the pay for election workers in the county back in 2021. He has also been an advocate for mental health services for youth in the county.

In addition, Dutt has been supportive of celebrating the achievements of local high school seniors in a ceremony in conjunction with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in the month of May.

Recently, he developed celebrations for area veterans and worked with Veterans Affairs to increase outreach to the citizens in the county.
