Carbon moves to new meeting schedule
Carbon County is kicking off 2025 with some changes to its meeting schedule.
On Thursday, the board of commissions approved the new meeting schedule, which consolidates the commissioners’ meetings from every week, to every other week.
“Beginning next year, the county commissioners will move to meetings on the first and third Thursday of every month, getting away from our weekly meetings,” Commissioners’ Chairman Mike Sofranko said.
“It’s much more productive,” he added, noting that it will allow the office staff to get more done weekly to prepare for a meeting every other week than it does for the weekly meetings. Currently, it takes approximately two days to get everything ready for the Thursday meetings.
“We can still do it in two days, whether it’s a meeting once a week or once every other week,” Sofranko said.
The meeting start time will remain the same at 10:30 a.m. in the commissioners’ meeting room on the third floor of the county administration building.
With the changes, it also means that salary board will continue to be held the first Thursday of the month, while both election board and retirement board will move to the third Thursday of the month.
To kick off the year, the county’s annual salary board meeting, which is required to set all employee salaries for the year, will take place at 2 p.m. on Jan. 6. The weekly commissioners’ meeting will be held immediately following this meeting and will not be held that Thursday.
“We really have been able to streamline a lot in the office this year,” Sofranko said, commending Eloise Ahner for working with the board and staff to make this happen. “It’s going to make things a lot smoother here.”
Commissioner Rocky Ahner also commended the commissioners’ staff for all the work they have done to make the meetings run smoothly and said that this will help them in the long run.
