Why does the Pleasant Valley School Board continue to blunder when it has a seasoned board member of 27 years at its helm?
As the Pleasant Valley School Board muddles through its meetings, policy violations continue. When crowds attended the Nov. 25 gathering, they saw two items removed arbitrarily from the board agenda that indicated Superintendent Konrad’s resignation and his rehiring with a $25K raise, totaling a new salary of $215K. If he loves PV so much, why doesn’t he live nearby and why did he resign?
PV Policy 006 states, “Any additions or changes to the prepared agenda may be requested by a school director or the Superintendent and must be approved by a majority vote of the school directors present.” Why was no board vote taken? Why was board policy ignored?
In addition to disregarding its own policy, did PV violate the Sunshine Act as well by this action? “Nothing in the Sunshine Act allows a finalized agenda already provided to the public to be amended.” (Times News, 12/4/24, p. 7). Since taxpayers were denied access to the meeting, isn’t that yet another Sunshine Act breach? “There still wasn’t room for everyone who showed up.” (Times News, 12/4/24, p. 7)
Policy 905 Citizen Advisory Committee has been brought up AGAIN (Board Mtg., 12/5/24) by Board Member John Gesiskie as he noted that the Committee has never been organized and public input is valuable for the board to function. Is this yet another misstep in following PV’s own policy?
If PV wants to set a good example then it needs to follow its policies. Otherwise, they look foolish, ill-prepared and aloof In their elected position and responsibility to their constituents.
Perhaps they need to read their own policies and the Sunshine Act before they can discharge the duties of their offices with fidelity.
