State police at the Bethlehem barracks said two vehicles struck a bear in back-to-back incidents at 4:39 a.m. on Nov. 19 on Route 873 in Washington Township.
They said David A. Reese, 61, of Slatington, was driving a 2018 Jeep Cherokee southbound when the bear emerged from the left side of the road, entering the southbound lane where it was struck.
After the initial impact, police said, a 2022 Hyundai Ioniq driven by Denise C. Reese, 56, also of Slatington, which was also southbound, struck the bear with its undercarriage.
They said the second impact caused the bear to become lodged in the undercarriage of the Jeep. It was removed by the Pennsylvania Game Commission.
Police said David Reese had minor injuries in the incident but was not transported from the scene by emergency personnel.
