Mahoning adopts 2025 budget with no tax increase

Mahoning Township residents won’t have to dig deeper in their pockets to pay their municipal taxes next year.

On a 3-0 vote, supervisors on Wednesday adopted the 2025 budget with no tax increase.

Board Chairman Robert Slaw and Supervisor Ronald Reeser were absent.

Next year’s budget will leave the millage rate unchanged at 7.75 mills.

Of that, the tax rate for general purposes is 6 mills; fire protection services, .5 mills; road machinery purposes, .5 mills; and building and land purposes, .75 mills.

Last year, residents saw a 1-mill increase that raised the millage rate from 6.75 to 7.75 mills.

Township secretary Natalie Haggerty said in December 2022 that the hiring of a new full-time road department worker, coupled with moving a part-time clerk to full-time clerk were contributing factors that resulted in that increase.
