Northwestern and Palmerton both gained wins in girls basketball action on Thursday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Northwestern-Southern Lehigh

Northwestern made it three straight Colonial League victories, as the Tigers rolled to a 68-23 win over Southern Lehigh.

Natalie Conner scored nine of her game-high 17 points in the second quarter as the Tigers took a 39-16 lead into halftime.

Cara Thomas tallied eight of her 13 points in the third quarter, while Emma Freeman finished with 11.

The Spartans received a team-high 10 points from Samantha Fontanez.

Three players scored in double figures as Palmerton gained a 45-35 Colonial League victory over Bangor.

Cate Morgan led the way for the undefeated Blue Bombers with 16 points, while Mikayla Pengelly added 14 and Courtney Connell finished with 12.

The Slaters were paced by Avery Nelson’s 16 points.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Salisbury-Jim Thorpe

Salisbury rebounded from a slow start and then cruised to a 53-23 Colonial League victory over Jim Thorpe.

The Olympians jumped out to a six-point first-quarter lead, but were then held to just 15 points the rest of the way.

Steven Lozada tallied 17 points and Julian Makoul added 11 to pace the Falcons. Thorpe was led by Aaron Curran’s eight points.

Blue Mountain held off a Tamaqua second-half rally, and edged the Raiders 44-42 in Schuylkill League action.

The visiting Eagles built a 30-16 halftime lead before the Raiders outscored them 26-14 in the second half.

Tyler Meade led the winners with 19 points. Noah Mateyak topped Tamaqua with 19 points, and Cooper Ansbach finished with 17.

BLUE MOUNTAIN

In Schuylkill League action, Trey Keating’s 30-point performance helped spark Nativity to 81-68 win over Weatherly.

The winners, who jumped out to a 13-point first-quarter lead, also received 20 points from Noah Doblin.

Corbin Wagner scored a team-high 22 points for the Wreckers, while Ian McKeegan finished with 18. Chance Stauffer also contributed 14.
