State Rep. Doyle Heffley, R-Carbon, has been selected to serve as Republican chairman of the House Human Services Committee for the 2024-25 Legislative Session. This is the second consecutive session he has held theposition.
“Having served on this committee throughout my time in the Legislature, I have witnessed the positive impact we can have, from leading efforts like the opioid task force to addressing the challenges of overprescribing, to ensuring that our most vulnerable citizens have access to the critical care and support they need,” Heffley said.
The Human Services Committee oversees issues within the Department of Human Services and the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs, playing a key role in shaping legislation related to mental health, drug and alcohol crises, and the heroin and opioid overdose epidemic.
State Sen. Dave Argall, R-29, has again been appointed chairman of the Senate Majority Policy Committee for the 2025-26 legislative session.
In this role, Argall continues his tenure as a member of the Senate Majority Leadership Team, the first senator from the 29th District in Schuylkill, Carbon and Luzerne counties to serve in Senate leadership since the 1860s.
“Chairing the Majority Policy Committee allows me to examine a great variety of legislative ideas through public hearings and careful review, including the shortage of quality housing, the spread of blight, and the impact of crime on our largest cities and smallest neighborhoods,” said Argall.
Under Argall’s leadership, the Majority Policy Committee has crisscrossed the state, holding hearings on the impact of COVID-19 lockdowns on employers and schools, waste and abuse in state welfare programs and repeat DUI offenders.
Argall also chaired 10 public roundtables throughout Pennsylvania on school safety, hearing from parents, students and educators.
