Coaldale has staff, police turnover
The officer who was in charge of the Coaldale Police Department since October has resigned.
Coaldale Borough Council accepted a letter of resignation from Officer Michael Sniscak during its recent monthly meeting.
In his letter, Sniscak notes that he is leaving the job for other career opportunities.
“It has been an honor to protect and serve the residents of the borough,” Sniscak wrote.
His resignation became official on Dec. 7.
Part-time Officer Kevin Soberick also submitted a letter of resignation. He had been in the role since February 2023.
Soberick also stepped down as the borough’s emergency management coordinator.
Council will advertise for the position.
Later in the meeting, it was noted that Soberick is also stepping down as an assistant chief of the Coaldale Fire Department.
Councilman Jacob Adamitis said that Soberick had gotten another job.
Also during the meeting, it was noted that Eric Ramirez will continue serving as mayor despite recently emailing a letter of resignation to council.
“For the record, the mayor is not leaving,” council President Claire Remington said. “For all the rumors that were sent around, he is not going to be leaving. He is going to finish his term and follow through with what he promised when he took his oath.”
Ramirez was at the meeting.
Council also received word that Secretary Beth Martinico planned to leave the job but would work one day a week until a replacement is found. She also said she would help train the replacement.
Council tabled any action on Martinico until it receives a resignation letter from her.
The borough will advertise for a secretary/assistant treasurer.
It was noted that the borough office will be open Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in December and January. It will be closed Wednesdays.
The borough hopes to have a peer helper from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development return to assist with office duties until the end of the year.
