Weatherly sells 120-acre plot for $127,730
Weatherly Borough Council sold a 120-acre former watershed tract in Lausanne Township at its meeting Monday.
The high bid came from Matthew and Michael Grega at $127,730, and council approved the sale.
Other bidders were Michael Bellizia, $60,000; Alan and Robert Chyko, $108,000; and Meghan Kurtz-Wahley, $100,000.
The bids were opened last month and provided to council for review before action on the sale.
A lone bid of $40,000 was rejected in October. Councilman Jeffery Miller didn’t think the borough should sell one of its assets, whereas Mayor Paul Hadzick said a sale would put it back on the tax rolls.
Miller reversed his position on Monday, and felt that the borough should go with the highest bidder based on others’ arguments for the sale.
Borough Manager Harold Pudliner said that the property wasn’t a valuable asset for the borough, as it was “on the other side of the mountain” with steep terrain and wetlands.
“I agree with Jeff, because the property is pretty much useless,” Councilman Joseph Cyburt said. “We can’t use it for anything, and I’m pretty sure we can use the money.”
Other business
In other business, council approved a resolution with AMP Ohio regarding generators used to cut the demand for electricity at high peaks.
The resolution was done as a courtesy, Pudliner said.
Council also heard from Greg Kurtz, of Advance Code, which is offering its services for zoning, property maintenance, code enforcement and inspections to the borough.
A negotiable price list was provided to the borough for consideration.
Council also passed a resolution last month during a special meeting to apply for a state gaming grant to purchase a new dump truck.
The amount sought is $194,586.
