Lehighton Band sets holiday mood at concert
The holiday spirit was in full force at the Lehighton Boys & Girls Band Hall on Sixth Street, Lehighton, as the Lehighton Band, under the direction of Bradly R. Cressley, held its annual Christmas concert.
The concert featured a variety of Christmas songs to set the mood for the holidays. Featured musicians included Bob Birch with a clarinet solo on “Gabriel’s Oboe”; Mike Reph and Eliza Cressley with a trumpet duet on “Baby, It’s Cold Outside”; and Eliza Cressley with a solo during the performance of “Grown Up Christmas List.”
Those attending had a chance to sing along with a medley of Christmas favorites.
The hall was nearly full and everyone enjoyed Christmas cookies, coffee, tea and hot chocolate.
The Lehighton Band was established in 1865, one year before the Borough of Lehighton was incorporated. The band currently has 42 members, 36 of whom played at the Christmas concert.
Cressley became director of the band in 2012.
“The band hall is an excellent location for the concert,” he said. “We still rehearse Monday nights from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Seventh Street location.”
The Lehighton Boys & Girls Band was created in 1911.
“A year ago in July, when I took over, there were eight members,” Cressley said. “As of today, we have 32 members.”
The Lehighton Boys & Girls Band’s Christmas concert will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the band hall at Sixth and Cypress streets.
Both bands welcome new members. Music lessons are available as well.
