Towamensing Township supervisors
The Towamensing Township supervisors approved the 2025 proposed budget at the December meeting, with no tax increase expected.
“Without a tax increase (the budget) includes a very expensive key piece of equipment — a front-end loader,” said Supervisor John Kleintop.
In other year-end matters:
• The board approved fire company assignments. Ryan Snyder will serve as fire chief; Robert O’Donnell, assistant chief; Eric George, president; and Evan Stevenson, vice president.
• A reminder was made that DCNR had a burn ban in effect until Dec. 6.
• Country Junction requested a name for the township’s road from Route 209 to the soccer field. They requested using “Penny Lane” in honor of Penny Kleintop. Following a lengthy discussion, including that this is a driveway, not a road, without an address, the supervisors approved the motion to establish a street address and respond to the service team that they have “No desire to name our driveway.”
• Kirk Summa & Co.’s year end agreement and Beltzville Lake Estates garbage agreement were tabled.
• Chair Guy Seifert brought to the board’s attention that a firefighter had commented that he didn’t feel it was their responsibility to issue smoke alarm violations as it negatively affects relations with firefighters and residents. Per the ordinance, firefighters are to issue violations on-site. Siefert noted that “maybe they can notify on-site and mail the violation.” The matter will be looked into further.
• The Historical Commission will change the monthly meeting to Dec. 19 at 7 p.m.
• The supervisors will hold the end of year meeting on Dec. 30 at 3 p.m.
• The reorganization meeting will be held on Jan. 2 at 5 p.m., followed by the regular meeting at 7 p.m.
