Tamaqua music dept. presents holiday program
The Tamaqua Area High School Music Department will present its annual Holiday Music Program at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 12 in the Tamaqua Area Auditorium.
The concert will feature the best in holiday selections presented by students in the Concert Choir, Jazz Chorale, Senior High Wind Ensemble and the Raider Concert Band.
The Wind Ensemble featuring musicians from grades 9-12 will open the program with “Buckets Full of Christmas” composed for wind ensemble by Larry Clark. The concert continues with “On a Winter’s Night” arranged by Jared Barnes. The set will close with “Wonders of the Season” arranged by Gary Gilroy.
The Jazz and Concert Chorale will open the vocal portion of the concert with “Betelehemu,” a Nigerian Christmas carol arranged by Andy Beck. “When October Goes” is the next selection, and an Irish Lullaby, “Shoheen Sho” will follow before the set concludes with “See That Star,” an original Christmas spiritual by Victor Johnson.
The Raider Concert Band takes the stage with “A Dashing Gallop” by James Pierpont. The band continues with “Not So Silent Night” by Evan Van Doren. “Santa the Barbarian and The Pirates of the North Pole” by Randall Standridge and the Leroy Anderson holiday classic “Sleigh Ride” will follow.
The Concert Choir will close the program beginning with “Agnus Dei” written by Victor Johnson. The choir will sing “Come and See the Baby” by Ruth Gray.
The choir will then perform the holiday classic “Carol of the Bells” and end the set with “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.”
The program will conclude with the band and choir performing the “Voice of Christmas” by James Swearingen.
Accompanists for the choir are Cecilia Ulicny and Debra Sweeney.
The Raider Band and Senior High Wind Ensemble are under the direction of Mark E. Beltz, while the Concert Choir and Jazz Chorale are under the direction of John D. Buglio.
Doors will open at 6:45 p.m. There is an admission charge, and discounts will be given to students and senior citizens.
