Carbon chamber announces hotel tax grant applications

Applications are now open for this round of hotel tax disbursement through the partnership between Carbon County Chamber & Economic Development Corporation, Pocono Mountain Visitors Bureau and Carbon County to support local tourism.

“The Chamber is proud to work with the Pocono Mountain Visitors Bureau to facilitate this program,” said Kylie Adams-Weiss, senior vice president of the Carbon Chamber & Economic Development Corporation. “This program, which uses Act 18 monies for marketing projects to support tourism in the county, is crucial for pushing tourism and the economy forward in our county. We know in Carbon that those things go hand-in-hand, and this annual disbursement program helps to put dollars towards the initiatives throughout the county that drive both.”

The program is to be used for tourism projects and tourism marketing; it is not a grant or loan program. Money is made available by the tax that is collected by hotels and bed-and-breakfasts in Carbon County. The PMVB and CCEDC have been providing support to nonprofit organizations for event promotion to bring overnight visitors to Carbon County.

A full list of guidelines is also available on the CCEDC’s website, and they will be hosting, in partnership with PMVB, a “Hotel Tax Allocation Workshop” on Wednesday at the CCEDC Office, located at 137 South St., Lehighton, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. This workshop will offer the opportunity to review the application process, as well as answer any questions attendees may have in applying. It is free and open to the public. To learn more, or to register, visit, t.ly/8tHm6.
