Santa visits Chestnuthill Park, hears children’s wishes
Santa made his way from the cold North Pole to the cold of Chestnuthill Park on Saturday.
He arrived at the park on a firetruck noting, “There wasn’t enough snow for my sleigh. It’s very cold out, and the reindeer are back at the North Pole to save their energy for the big night.”
As the crowd waited for the big man’s arrival, Steve Baade, a park committee member, led a sing-a-long of “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.”
“Every kid looks forward to meeting Santa, and the children get to visit locally at Chestnuthill Park,” Baade said. ”We have coloring activities and refreshments.”
Dehaven donated the tree, and the wreaths were made and donated by Boy Scout Troop 98.
“We are very appreciative,” Baade said.
And hot cocoa and cookies were available courtesy of the Western Pocono Woman’s Club.
Club member Bonnie Peters said, “I enjoy being part of the community and getting involved in community activities.”
Currently, there are 53 members of the women’s club, which has served the community for more than 50 years.
It’s footwear wishes for Landon Cooper, 7, and Cooper Montgomery, 6. Montgomery planned to ask Santa for a blue pair of cowboy boots, while Landon Cooper is hoping for a pair of blue Nikes.
Everyone had an opportunity to count the M&M’s in a jar to win a $25 Visa gift card. The Jablonski family made a range of guesses. Six year-old Mason Jablonski put in his guess at 200. While 4 year-old Isabella Jablonski guessed there were 1,000 M&Ms in the jar.
The community had a chance to get together and enjoy their special visit by Santa. It was easy to tell by the smiles on the children’s faces that they were having a wonderful time.
