The Panther Valley girls gained their first win of the season Saturday by defeating Palisades.
The Tamaqua girls swim team also posted a victory over the weekend.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Panther Valley-Palisades
Morgan Orsulak’s 22-point performance highlighted Panther Valley’s 54-24 non-conference victory over Palisades.
Orsulak netted 16 of her points in the first half, in which the Panthers took a 34-12 lead.
Caroline Breslin chipped in with 15 points, 11 of them coming in the first two quarters.
The Pirates’ Ella Young finished with a team-high 10 points.

Jim Thorpe-Hamburg
Ty Werley scored a game-high 31 points, including 14 of his team’s 30 during the fourth-quarter, to lead Hamburg to an 82-62 non-league victory over Jim Thorpe.
Werley sank 11-of-13 free throws, and the Hawks converted 15-of-20 from the charity stripe.
Pierre Gothard led the Olympians with 21 points, while Aaron Curran added 15.

Mount Carmel rallied from a 10-point deficit to edge Tamaqua 57-54 in non-league play.
The Tornadoes trailed 45-35 to start the fourth quarter, but outscored the Blue Raiders 22-9 in the final period to remain undefeated.
Jude Lazicki had a team-high 18 points for the winners.
Noah Mateyak had a game-high 19 points, while Cooper Ansbach chipped in 12 for Tamaqua.

Panther Valley at
Sam Lovello Classic
Lehighton, Northern Lehigh and Panther Valley all participated at the Brandywine Heights’ Sam Lovello Classic.
Berks Catholic captured the team championship, while the Indians registered a second-place finish. The Bulldogs and Panthers ended up 15th and 17th, respectively.
Lehighton’s Lukas Croizier turned in a second place at 139 pounds.
Marc Macias (285) added a third for the Indians, while Jacob Ferguson (172), Konner Nalesnik (160) and Connor Dugan (133) all placed fourth.
Cody Mazzocca led the way for the Bulldogs, as the 127-pounder posted a third-place finish.
Palmerton at
Case-Flynn Duals
Palmerton went 5-1 at the Case-Flynn Duals in Pottsville.
The Bombers earned wins over CB West (41-28), Southern Lehigh (39-30), Scranton (50-22), Milton (54-16) and Pottsville (44-26). The lone setback came to Whitehall, 48-18.
Four Palmerton wrestlers went 6-1 at the duals, with Dillon Lombardi (172/189) posting four pins and two technical falls.
Braden Strohl (189/215) collected five pins, Connor Messinger (114) had three falls, and Derek King (152) added two pins.
Tamaqua at DKI Invite
Tamaqua competed in the Darren Klingerman Invitational at Bloomsburg.
Honesdale captured the team championship, while the Raiders placed 13th out of 24 teams.
Aiden Schlier gained a silver medal at 127 pounds for Tamaqua, falling to Sullivan County’s Colton Wade in the title bout.
The Raiders’ Evan Temarantz (133) and Brody Schlier (139) both earned seventh-place finishes, while Jacob Hehn ended eighth at 189 pounds.

Raptor Invitational Tourney
Lehighton and Tamaqua both took part in the Invitational Tournament at Executive Education.
The Indians finished as tournament runners-up, while the Raiders came away with a third-place finish.
In a championship match at 124 pounds between Tribe teammates, Lillian Klotz gained a pin of Samantha Kauffman.
The Raiders’ Kiely Kunkel finished second at 112 pounds, while Jalissa Correa earned a third-place medal.
In another local showdown in a third-place match, the Indians’ Mia Hall gained a win over the Raiders’ Rylin Arroyo at 112 pounds.
Palmerton at
Dallastown Invitational
Palmerton traveled to Dallastown to compete in an Invitational.
Jade Kuhns (112) and Lea Schaible (136) both led the way for the Blue Bombers, posting 2-2 records during the double elimination tournament.
SWIMMING
Saucon Valley-Tamaqua
In non-conference action, Tamaqua and Saucon Valley posted a split.
The Raider girls earned a 90-64 victory, while the Panther boys posted a 98-45 victory.
Savannah Wilson captured four first-place finishes for Tamaqua, as she touched the wall first in both the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke. Wilson also swam a leg in the Raiders’ winning relays (200 Medley, 400 Freestyle).
Vincenzo Valentine (diving), Ben Hunsicker (100 backstroke), Audrey Nattress (100 butterfly) and Kate Behun (100 backstroke) all posted individuals firsts for the Blue Raiders.
